There have been times where I was shooting a session or even my own family and I can not for the love of pizza get a certain someone to smile. Now I do love moody photos, but sometimes my clients want to see a smile, heck sometimes I do too. My son is the classic, I don’t care what you do I will not smile for that camera you shove in my face, type of kid. The surprise of a camera no longer holds my son’s attention other photographers who photograph their children may have the same issue.

My son is a serious little guy and like I said I do like him being himself but for the sake of this tutorial I am taking this really serious photo that I love and making it a tad bit smilier. (Don’t think that is a word but that’s okay)

Okay so after I edited the photo to my liking I go to the Filter, Distort and Liquify.

This new screen blow will pop up.

You want to magnify your photo to get a better view of the mouth. You also want to go the warp tool which is located on the left hand side on the very top.

I adjust the warp tool to about half the length of the mouth and then adust the ends of the mouth. You also want to adjust the cheek bones. In this case I only moved them a smidge. I don't want a kooky fake smile. I want it to look natural and not altered.

I then zoom out and take a look to make sure everything looks okay.

Here is the before and after.

I don't like to alter mouths too much, but I think by altering it a smidge it changes the mood of the photo. Here's a better after look.

Easy as pie :)
